Jake smiled at the friendship he and Nikos had fallen so easily back into, content that it was once again strong. No matter what happened over the next couple of months, it would always remain rooted in secrets that only the two of them knew. Things that the boys might one day discover. Until then he was happy that Nikos trusted him. Their secrets had created a strong bond between them.

His old friend caught his eye end winked.

After returning the smile, Jake turned his attention to John and Paul sitting up by the aft rails together. He noticed that they were holding hands beneath their chairs and he smiled to himself. It had been inevitable since opening the envelopes that these two were going to hit it off. They must have both fancied each other since they met, and Jake wondered what they had been up to in their cabin when everyone else was asleep. It was an unlikely coupling, the confident young ex-soldier and the fey, slightly effeminate cook but, to them, their different physical qualities caused attraction, and Jake hoped they would be happy. It did not worry him that the boys might develop relationships among themselves, after all, he could cut in at any time; that was part of the deal.

Mick appeared from below disturbing his thoughts and handed him a plate of biscuits. Jake was still full from their dinner, but when Mick insisted with a huge wink that these were special cookies, Jake accepted. It was not long before John cottoned on to what was in them and the three of them were high and demanding more.
